Taste & Traditions Group
Welcome to the new EuroMayenne Taste & Traditions Group!

Food • Drinks • Nutrition • Edible Plants & Wild Foods • Discovery
Welcome to the Taste & Traditions group — a place to explore all things food-related, share our interests and knowledge, discover new things and, of course, the chance to discover different tastes! 😋
🌱 What is the group about?
This is not a traditional cooking group or a cookery class! It’s about discovering, sharing and enjoying food, drinks, nutrition, nature and culinary traditions together.
Our aim is to create a collaborative group where everyone can share their skills, knowledge, experiences and interests. You don’t need to be an expert, and you certainly don’t need to be a great cook! Perhaps you have a favourite recipe, a food tradition from your country, a passion for fermentation, an interesting nutritional discovery, knowledge of useful plants or a way of preserving food. Maybe you’ve simply discovered something new that you’d love to share.
The more we share, the more we can all learn from one another!
🍽️ What’s on the menu?
🌿 Herbs & useful plants — exploring edible plants, herbs and other natural resources around us, their traditional uses, and ways to grow, use, dry and preserve them.
🥤 Homemade drinks — water kefir, kombucha, herbal infusions and more.
🥬 Fermented foods — kimchi, pickles, sourdough and other discoveries.
🥗 Simple food ideas — salads, spreads, snacks and easy-to-make dishes.
🌰 Nutrition & the science of food — seeds, nuts, fibre, protein, the glycaemic index and ways to improve the nutritional value of everyday meals.
🌍 Food traditions & recipes — sharing the flavours, recipes and culinary traditions of the different countries and cultures represented within EuroMayenne.
🥕 Different ways of eating — exploring vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free and other dietary approaches.
🫙 Preserving food — fermentation, drying, bottling and other ways to make food last longer.
👩🍳 Demonstrations & hands-on activities — learning from one another and trying something new.
🍽️ Tastings & shared meals — from samples and tasters at our sessions to country-themed meals, pot-luck gatherings and restaurant outings.
🚜 Visits & discoveries — exploring local producers, markets, gardens and other interesting food-related places.
💬 And much more! If it involves food, drinks, nature, traditions or healthy living, we’re open to ideas.
😋 Learning is great — but so is tasting!
Of course, discovering new things is only part of the fun. We also want to taste, sample, exchange ideas and recipes and enjoy good food together!
🤝 A group built around sharing
This group works best when everyone contributes in their own way. You might share a skill, demonstrate something you know, bring a sample to taste, suggest a topic, organise a visit or introduce us to a food tradition from your part of the world.
You don’t have to know everything — just bring your curiosity and enthusiasm!
📅 Monthly meetings — and spontaneous adventures!
We plan to meet once a month, these will usually take place at La Visitation, Mayenne with themes and activities shaped by the interests and contributions of the group.
We’d also love to enjoy other informal activities together between meetings — perhaps a visit to a local producer, a market or an interesting event, or simply an impromptu outing when someone spots something worth exploring.
We’ll share planned meetings and confirmed dates in advance, while our proposed WhatsApp group will make it easier to share ideas, opportunities and last-minute invitations along the way.
💶 Contributions
Depending on the activity, a small contribution may be requested to cover tasting costs or help keep shared meals fair for everyone. Any contribution will be explained beforehand, and we’ll develop a simple approach together as the group takes shape.
🌿 Come and join us!
Whether you’re passionate about nutrition, curious about fermentation, interested in traditional uses of plants, keen to share recipes from your culture, or simply someone who enjoys good food and discovering new things, you’re very welcome!
Let’s share what we know, discover what we don’t, taste something new and enjoy doing it together.
